Introducing The Blackberry Bold PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 30 August 2010 09:05
Blackberry phones have always been popular, but mostly with the suited corporate types. While some non-business consumers have seen their appeal and adopted them over the other more widely accepted smartphones, Blackberry wants more 'regular' users, and the new improvements it's made to the Blackberry Bold are designed to make this Blackberry a little less stuffy, and a bit more fun.

With the wide variety of phones available, it was usually only business types that would actually choose to have a Blackberry, and this was mostly due to its success as a communication device rather than all singing, all dancing smartphone. Blackberry has been trying to extend the appeal of its phones, and the improvements to the new Blackberry Bold are designed to make it more consumer-friendly.

In fairness to Blackberry, they have stuck to the kind of style and design that has won them plenty of business customers, and looked at ways to make this appeal-able to the consumer market, rather than try and create a non business version of their phones. The improvements to the new Bold have created a sleeker, good looking smartphone, its just a question of whether you are a fan of the QWERTY keyboard, or not. The Bold's high resolution screen benefits from the excellent pixel density, which makes it easy to watch movies and images on the Blackberry's 'widescreen' layout; and reading the text on webpages and in messages is even easier on the eye, thanks to the crisp and clear display.

There's no shortage of connectivity options, which is usual for most smartphones, and especially one that has built its reputation on being the communication device of choice for businesses all over the world. As well as 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi, the Bold has GPS for use with the built in Blackberry Maps application. With digital zoom, autofocus, and an LED flash, the 3.2 megapixel camera will be more than enough for what most people will want to use it for, and there is also the capability to record HVGA video.

As well as a new shape and look, the new Bold also has Blackberry's latest operating system, Blackberry 5 OS. With an updated appearance, and better usability that will appeal to the consumers that Blackberry is trying to win over, it runs well thanks to the powerful processor in the Bold, which copes well with the demands placed on it. These include the Bold's more integrated handling of music and media, and the web browser, which works well for most sites. Communicating is something Blackberry phone were designed for, so whether is keeping in touch by text, email or using apps like Facebook Connect, the new Bold will be loved by those who like to stay in touch.

Blackberry faces a challenge to get its unique looking business phones accepted by a wider audience, but with stylish looks, an improved user interface, and a real alternative to the dozens of other smartphones available on the market, the new Bold is up to the task.
